Then a second guest sits down on the bench and sets their cup on the table. The first guest realizes the table was the table and quietly climbs down. No dialogue, just body language and timing, which is why it works in any language.
The joke is the very relatable panic of not knowing how a fancy place works, and it’s why so many people say they’ve been there.

The earliest take we found is from Steven Wommack, posted on November 1, 2026 in a bookshelf-lined cafe and captioned “Who can relate?”.
The one that made it a trend came a few hours later: Lee Houston’s “POV: Your first time in a fancy cafe”, filmed at a bare concrete cafe, passed 8 million views within two days. That caption is where the name comes from.
Kevin Winnik posted his own version that evening (“Who else has been in this situation?”). Some sites call him the original creator, but his video came after the other two. CapCut template versions followed on November 2.
